Varalakshmi Vratham is celebrated especially in the southern states of India. Varalakshmi Vratham is also known as Varalakshmi puja. Varalakshmi is another name for Goddess Lakshmi (the Goddess of wealth). It is celebrated in the month of Shravan or Sawan on the Friday before the full moon. This year it will be celebrated on the 16th of August (Friday). This festival is observed by the married women.

Varalakshmi Vratham

How is Varalakshmi Vratham celebrated? 

This worship is done by the women to please Goddess Lakshmi so that the blessing of Goddess Lakshmi is always sustained and the abundance of wealth is always in the house. The pooja is mostly done inside the house. A small Idol is placed in the home or a kalash is decorated with a saree, flowers, and gold jewelry which represent deity. The threshold is also decorated to welcome Goddess Lakshmi. Rangoli is drawn, and a pot is placed outside decorated with flowers, mango leaves, etc. Goddess Lakshmi is pleased with Akshat (rice), turmeric, and betel leaves. That's why such things are placed inside the pot.  A yellow thread is rolled on the neck of the pot, and a coconut is also placed on the top of the pot.

Significance

A Kalash decorated in such a way is always a big necessity in Hindu worship.  Above mentioned things are considered auspicious and have a positive energy. Therefore such things are used in worship to bring positivity to the house. Varalakshmi Vratham is performed to bring positivity, wealth, and happiness to the house
