What is Dev Sayani Ekadashi?

In Hinduism, Ekadashi Vrata (Ekadashi fast) is spiritually significant. The number of Ekadashi in a year is 24. The Ekadashi of Ashadha month is known as 'Devsayani Ekadashi'. 'Devsayani' is a Sanskrit word, which means slumber of God.

The word Devsayani refers to the cosmic slumber of Lord Vishnu. The Other names for Devsayani are 'Harisayani', 'Vishnu Sayani', etc.It falls on Shukla Paksha, (the period of the waxing moon). Dev Saini Ekadashi is also known as Aashdhi Ekadashi. Lord Vishnu is considered to have gone to cosmic slumber for 4 months during this period.
How does it observe?
The day is observed by doing fast in the owner of Lord Vishnu, and Sung Bhajans of Vishnu and Krishna the form of lord Vishnu. Many people observe the day by visiting Krishna temples or Vishnu temples. The devotees of Lord Vishnu do charities to poor people and the Brambhans for the happiness,peace and prosperity of the family and children.
The significance
According to the Legend, Lord Vishnu goes to sleep for 4 months in Kshirsagar (the Milky Ocean). The period is also known as Chaturmas.
