Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated on 2nd October every year. Gandhiji's full name was Mohan Das Karamchand Gandhi. He was the habitant of Gujarat Porbandar. Gandhi Jayanti is one of the three national festivals of India.

Mahatma Gandhi was a nonviolent freedom fighter. He led India's freedom movement and gave its freedom back from British rule. Therefore, he was known as the "father of the nation". This title was given by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose by seeing his love and dedication for his country.

Why is Gandhiji's birth anniversary celebrated as a national festival?


Gandhiji was not only known as the "father of the nation" but also his image of non-violent made him more unique and different from other leaders. His love and dedication to his country also made him different. For such reasons, his birth anniversary is celebrated as a national festival. Not only this but there is an international non-violence day also marked by the United Nations on this specific day (2nd October).

Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated as a national holiday. The schools, colleges, government offices, Banks, etc, remain closed on this day. A mass Prayer and assembly are held in many places. Many speeches are given by many political leaders, students, and common people, in which, specific aspects of his life are narrated. Garlands of flowers and buckets are offered on many Statues and images of Mahatma Gandhi. Public assemblies are held in many places to remember his contribution and to pay tribute to him.

Many people share their feeling about him through social media. In this way, this Pacific day is celebrated in India.

Mahatma Gandhi's contribution to India's freedom is enormous. It can't be expressed just in a few lines. Mahatma Gandhi was the chief leader of India's freedom movement and played a pivotal role to give India back its freedom.

Apart from this, there were many movements run by him like 'Namak Satyagraha, 'Quit India free', 'Champaran movement', 'Kheda movement', 'Khilafat movement', 'Non-cooperation movement', etc.

Mahatma Gandhi was a priest of truth and non-violence. That is why he fought all the movements on the strength of truth and nonviolence. This virtue made him more than a human being. The method of truth and nonviolence disturbed the Britishers a lot that's why eventually they became detained to set India free on the 15th of August 1947 they went away from India in this way Gandhiji became the "father of the nation", and a national hero.
