The Tulsi plant is the most sacred in Hinduism. Offering water and worshiping the Tulsi plant every day is considered more important for the happiness, peace, and prosperity of the home. It is also believed that by worshipping Tulsi, Lord Vishnu can also be pleased and his blessings can be obtained.

Tulsi plant & leaves

Tulsi leaves are an important element in worship materials. It is offered to many deities like Lord Shaligram, Lord Vishnu, and all other forms of Lord Vishnu. The Tulsi plant is a symbol of wifehood and Motherhood and it enhances the beauty of the courtyard of a house.

What is Tulsi Vivah?

Tulsi Vivah is a ritual that is performed by Hindu married women between the periods of Prabodhini Ekadashi and Kartik Purnima. Tulsi Vivah is a wedding ceremony of the goddess Tulsi and Lord Shaligram ( a form of Lord Vishnu). On this day, women decorate the tulsi plant, wearing red Chunri and applying Sindoor on the plant.

Some important points to know about Tulsi 

* The Tulsi is offered to Lord Vishnu and his other forms.

* Tulsi is not offered to Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Shiva, and Lord Ganesha.

* During solar and lunar eclipses, add the Tulsi leaves to the cooked food to protect it.

* Tulsi leaves are beneficial for the common cold. 

* Consuming Tulsi leaves every day makes a man disease-free.

Who is Vrinda, and how is she associated with Tulsi?

Vrinda is a form of the goddess Tulsi. Vrinda was the consort of the demon King Jalandhar. She was famous and worshipped for her chastity. She was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu. Jalandhar was very powerful, he used to bother all the Gods. Vrinda's chastity was the center point of the power of Jalandhar. That's why all the Gods were unable to kill Jalandhar. Therefore, it became mandatory to break Vrinda's Chastity. Lord Vishnu applied a Canning trick and went to Vrinda in the form of Jalandhar. Thus, Lord Vishnu succeeded in breaking her chastity and killing Jalandhar too.

Lord Vishnu apologized to Vrinda for breaking her trust and blessed her to be born as Tulsi in her next birth and he would marry her in his other form of Shaligram. Thus lord Vishnu kept his promise in his next incarnation and married Tulsi in her next birth.
