Why is Ganesh Chaturthi celebrated in India?
By Intimate Viewpoint
Ganesh Chaturthi is observed as the birth anniversary of the elephant-headed and the most cutest God Ganesha, the son of Goddess Parvati or Gauri and Lord Shiva or Mahadev. He is the youngest son of Lord Shiv and Parvati.
Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the major religious festivals in Hinduism. It is celebrated all over India but especially in Maharashtra, it is celebrated with great pomp.
Magnificent pandals are made everywhere in which huge idols of Ganesha are established. Lakhs and Crores of Rupees are spent by many communities on this festival.
The significance
Lord Ganesha is known as "Vighna Vinashak" or "Vighna Harta" which means the destroyer of obstacles. It is believed that by shipping Lord Ganesha at home all kinds of obstacles are removed and happiness, peace, and progress reside in the house.
Before starting any new work, Lord Ganesha is worshiped first. Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated in the month of August-September in the Gregorian calendar and on the "Chaturthi" of "Shukla Paksha" in the lunar calendar.
