Children's Day or Bal Divas is celebrated on 14th November every year in India. 14 November is the birthday of Jawaharlal Nehru the first prime minister of India. It is said that Jawaharlal Nehru loved children very much. Children affectionately called him "Chacha Nehru". He not only considered children as the country's future but also considered the backbone of the society. That's why he was always ready for the upliftment of the children. He believed that only the right education and upbringing of children can take the country forward. He was a great advocate of children, and with fully feeling the responsibilities of a Prime Minister, he advocated for the welfare of children. He has many contributions to the development of children. Hence in view of his love, contemplation, and thoughts toward children, his birth anniversary is celebrated as Children's Day.
Do people celebrate Children's Day on October 12?
Children's Day is celebrated on different days in many countries of the world. Children's Day is also celebrated internationally on 20 November. It was first established as universal Children's Day in 1954. International Children's day was first publicized at the world conference in Geneva. Since 1958 it is celebrated on 1st June.
In Japan, Children's Day is celebrated on the 5th of May. There it is known as "kodomo no hi".
Why and how is Children's Day celebrated in India and across the world?
Children's Day is celebrated in India and across the world in honor of children and to raise awareness about their rights, education, and welfare. On this day, schools organize different kinds of games and different programs for recreation for children.
Sports and education are the fundamental rights of children. Hence, the whole world remembers the fundamental rights of children on this day and gives them the freedom to do things as per their wish.
There are still many places in India, where children are made to work instead of playing and studying. The fundamental rights of children are taken away and forced into hazardous work. Therefore, to prevent such things various programs are organized on this special day (on 14th November).
"The children of today will make the India of tomorrow, the way we bring them up will determine the future of the country". This was the saying of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of India. That's why it was decided by the constitution of India to celebrate Jawaharlal Nehru's birthday as Children's day after his death.

* The constitution of India declared the right to free and compulsory elementary education for all children of the 6 to 14 age group.
* The right to freedom and dignity and guaranteed protection of childhood against exploitation.
* Right to equal opportunities and facilities to develop in a healthy manner.

* Right to be protected from any dangerous employment.
