The Legend

There is a long story behind it. Ganesh is the son of Shankar and Parvati. But goddess Parvati didn't birth him. She created him with (Ubtan) sandal and turmeric paste that she used to apply to her body before bathing.

One day, when she was going to take a bath, there was no one to guide the house. Then she begins to create a statue with the Ubtan. Very soon she created a statue of a beautiful boy. Then she thought to make him alive and started chanting 'Mantra'. Just after then, the statue transformed into a beautiful boy. As the boy open his eyes he saw Goddess Parvati is standing there. He called her 'Maa' (mother). Hering this Devi Parvati embarrassed him quickly and called him Beta Ganesha.

That's why Ganesha is known as the younger son of God Shiv and Parvati. But Lord Shiv was unaware of Ganesha.

Lord Ganesha started taking care of the house while Devi Parvati went to bathe. Meanwhile, God Ghiv was walking toward Ganesha. Ganesha stopped him and told him that he can't go inside. Lord Shankar got angry, but Ganesha was doing his job regardless. Then there was a long argument occurred between them. Then the argument transformed into a severe war. Lord Shiv cut off his head with his 'Trishul'.

Devi Parvati came there running and sobbing when she heard about it. She asked angrily Shiva to make him alive otherwise she would also die. Lord Shiv refused to fast but lastly, he ordered his man to bring a head of a child whose mother is lying facing behind her child.

Eventually, there was head of a baby Elephant was found in the same condition. So, that was fixed onto the body of Ganesha. In this way, Ganesha got alive. But mother Parvati was not yet happy completely. Because she was concerned that how Ganesha would survive with such a look and who would consider him as God. Then God Shiv granted him a boon that he will be worshipped first in every auspicious deed and before every worship.

In this way, Ganesha got first place among all Gods. Lord Ganesha is also called 'Vighnaharta' means the disruptor. Therefore, establishing his image or idol in a house brings happiness, development, hope, and prosperity to the house.

Lord Ganesha is a symbol of auspiciousness, that's why this festival is celebrated every year in such a way, with full faith and belief.
