Ganga river is worshipped as goddess Ganga in Hindu mythology. Ganga Dusshera is celebrated to honour the descent of the Holy river Ganga from heaven to earth.
Ganga Dussehra is also known as 'Gangavtaran' which means the landing or incarnation of the Goddess Ganga on Earth.
This festival is celebrated annually on Dasami (the 10th day) of the Shukla Paksha (waxing moon) of the Jyeshtha month.
In 2025, it is celebrated on this 5th of June i.e.Thursday.
