What is Kojagori Lokkhi Pujo?

'Kojagori Lokkhi Puja' or Lakshmi Pooja is celebrated on the fourth day after Vijaydashmi or on the Ashwin full moon day. This year, Kojagori Lokkhi Puja is on the 16th of October i.e. Wednesday, or on the 17th of October on Thursday. The Tithi begins on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. and ends on Thursday at 4:50 p.m.

Celebrations
Kojagori Lokkhi Pujo is prominently celebrated in Bengal, Assam, Tripura, Orissa, and West Bengal.
Goddess Lakshmi is the Goddess of wealth and prosperity and the consort of Lord Vishnu. The term 'Kojagori' means, who is awakened. Goddess Lakshmi gives blessings to her devotees who are awake on the night of Kojagiri Laxmi Pooja. It is considered that Goddess Lakshmi pleases with cleanliness therefore, people clean and decorate their homes to welcome Goddess Lakshmi and to get the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi. This pooja is performed especially by the women but somewhere, men also perform the pooja. They keep a fast on this day and perform Pooja on the specific Tithi of this day.
Legend & Significance
Kojagiri Lokkhi Puja is also known as 'Kojagori Poornima' or 'Sharad Purnima'. All Poornima or Full Moon are of special importance. and mythological significance in Hinduism. Thus this Purnima also holds a mythological significance among Hindus. Thus the Kojagori Poornima also holds a specific significance. The night is more special than the daytime of this Purnima. According to Hindu mythology, goddess Lakshmi roams the Earth on this full moon night and gives blessings of wealth and prosperity to her devotees who are awake. Therefore people lit Diyas at the entrance of their homes and decorated them with Rangoli and Alpana (a type of design drawn on the floor with rice paste or a special clay in some specific States). They keep the doors and windows open to welcome Goddess Lakshmi. It is also believed that the goddess Lakshmi rains Ambrosia on this Fullmoon night. That's why people keep milk or Kheer on their terrace or courtyard for the whole night and consume by the family members the next morning after taking a bath.
