2nd October, What Is The Significance Of This Day In India?

Why is Second October observed nationally in India?

By Intimate Viewpoint

Second October is one of the three national festivals of India (Independence Day or 15th August, Republic Day or 26 January, and Second October or Gandhi Jayanti).

Mahat ma Gandhi

Even though this day is widely known in India as Gandhi Jayanti, i.e. the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi this day is also the birthday of another great man Lal Bahadur Shastri. He was the second prime minister of India from 1964 to 1966.

His greatness was no less than the greatness of Mahatma Gandhi and neither was his contribution to the struggle for India's freedom. Despite that, very few people in India know the Second October as his birthday.

Celebration of Second October

In India, it is also celebrated with great pomp like the other two national festivals. Government holidays are declared in schools, colleges, and government offices. Flower garlands are publicly offered to his statues in many places. His favorite Hymn " Vaishnav Jan Ko Tene Kahiye" is sung and played somewhere. Gandhiji was also known as "Rashtriya Pita" or 'Father Of The Nation'.

Second October is also observed internationally as the International Day of Non-Violence.

What is "Rashtriya Swachhata Divas"

The campaign "Swachh Bharat Abhiyan" was initiated by Mr. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India in the year 2014 to promote cleanliness and hygiene across the country.

This idea is implemented on the Second of October of every year on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

The contribution of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri

The contribution of both Lal Bahadur Shastri and Mahatma Gandhi is remarkable in the history of India. They both played important roles in India's freedom struggle. Lal Bahadur Shastri became the Prime Minister of India after the death of the first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and served India for 2 years 1964 to 1966. He was one of the Lal-Bal-Pal.

Mahatma Gandhi's contribution to the freedom struggle was of a very soft nature. He was a supporter of non-violence, and he gave Independence to India by following this path. Thus he became the father of the nation.
