Significance and Legend
According to the mythology, Krishna is the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The main purpose of Lord Vishnu's coming to earth in the form of Krishna was to kill the demon King Kansha. Kansha was a cruel and tyrant king of Mathura. He used to kill the Men who worshipped Lord Vishnu. He considered himself almighty and a God. He also killed the seven brothers of Lord Krishna.
Lord Krishna was the 8th son of Devki and Vasudev. Devki was the younger sister of Kansha. Thus he was the maternal uncle of Krishna.
Krishna Janmashtami has great significance in Hindu mythology because this incarnation of Lord Vishnu gave the precious gift to the world "Bhagwat Geeta". Which gives knowledge of lies and truth, sin and virtue, and good and bad to every human being.
