The importance of the month of Saavan in Indian culture

The Saawan is one of the twelve months in the lunar calendar. The biggest reason for its importance in Indian culture is that it is called the month of Lord Shiva. Because the month of Shravan or Saavan falls in the rainy season between July and August in the Gregorian Calendar.

The rainy season is believed to be a symbol of the renewal of life because many new plants and greenery and different new creatures and organisms take birth all around. Rainwater is considered a life-giver and also the blessing of Lord Shiva. For this reason, the month of Shravan is called the month of Shiva.

Festivals and observances in Saavan 

The specialty of the month of Saawan is also increased by the fact that many festivals are also celebrated in this month such as 

* Raksha Bandhan

* Krishna Janmashtami 

* Nag Panchami 

* Naryal Poornima 

* Basava Panchami and also many more.

The whole month of Sawan is observed by the entire Hindu people. Many people observe fast on the Mondays of this month and offer water to Lord Shiv. Many people observe the month by having Satvik Bhojan (food without garlic and onion) for the whole month. Hindu Married women, basically from north India, wear green color in many ways such as (green bangles and green outfits). They apply mehndi on feet and hands because green is considered the color of auspiciousness, prosperity, and fertility.

Saawan Mohotsav is also celebrated by women in many societies.

What is Kanwar Yatra

Kanwar is a long, beautifully decorate bamboo with hanging beautiful pots on both sides. Devotees take Kanwar on their shoulders Fetch holy water from the nearest holy rivers and offered it to Lord Shiva in their nearest pilgrimage. All devotees complete this holy journey with full sincerity.
