When is Makar Sankranti, how is it celebrated?

Makar Shankranti is a Hindu festival which is celebrated annually in the 14 th of January and in the 15th of January in a leap year.
Makar Sankranti is the celebration of the transition of the sun from the zodiac of Sagittarius (Dhanu Rashi) to Capricorn (Makar Rashi) which means the movement of the sun from South to North. The Sun god is worshipped on this festival. However the day is considered as a Hindu festival but also many-day festivals of different religions are organised on the same day and called by many names all over India such as, Pongal,Til Sakraat Maga, Uttarayana, Makar Sankranti, Khichdi, Ghughuti, Tusu, Lohri, Lal Loi, etc.
In Hinduism,it is celebrated as a religious festival, some other people celebrate this festival also as cultural and harvest festival.
